- Rain or shine, the landfills remain open and only close to observe holidays (see below for which holidays we are closed).
- On each first Saturday of every month and on Saturdays following closed holidays,
both landfills have extended hours from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. See the Calendar below for more information.
Days of Operation
Please check our 2019 Calendar to see the days/hours of operation for both landfills, including dates of the Cities' and the County's Community Cleanup Events.
The landfills are closed on Sundays and during the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Presidents' Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Veterans' Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
The 2019 Calendar (PDF) includes closed holidays, regular hours of operation, extended-hour Saturdays, and household hazardous waste drop-off days for Billy Wright Landfill and Highway 59 Landfill.

The Billy Wright and Highway 59 Landfills accept up to four (4) mattresses and box springs from residents for FREE. Please neatly stack each mattress or box spring in the designated mattress area to avoid penalty of $5 each.
Loads with more than 4 mattresses/box springs will be charged $5 per each additional mattress/box spring.
Companies, contractors and other businesses are charged the regular fee of $5 each mattress.
(The RWA reserves the right to charge for mattresses not properly stacked or charge/dispose of mattresses that are heavily soiled or torn.)
