California Green Building Code
Effective January 1, 2011, the California Green Building Code (CalGreen) requires 50% diversion of waste from construction and demolition projects through recycling and/or salvage. This CalGreen requirement applies to:
- All new construction of a building, regardless of project value
- Additions to non-residential buildings or structures of at least 2,000 square feet or alterations with an estimated construction cost of at least $500,000
Note: for CalGreen, a waste management plan is not required if using an approved mixed C&D facility; however, we do not have one of these permitted within Merced County. Please see the Commercial Recycling Guide below to locate recyclers/reusers based on material type.
