  • On Saturdays following closed holidays, the landfills will have extended hours until 3:30 p.m. See the "Days of Operation" Calendar below for more information.
  • The landfills have extended hours until 3:30 p.m. on every first Saturday of the month.
  • There will be a HHW Collection Event on Saturday (September 23, 2017) in Los Banos and on Saturday (July 15, 2017) outside of Merced. Visit the HHW page for more information.
  • Please Note: Even on rainy days, the landfills remain open. During and following wet days, long wait times at the tipping pad may be experienced.

Observed Holidays

The landfills are closed on Sundays and during the following holidays:
  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Presidents' Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans' Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
On the first Saturday of every month, as well as the Saturday following a closed holiday, both landfills will be open until 3:30 p.m. (normal Saturday hours are until Noon).

Visit our Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) page to see what is banned from being landfilled within the State of California and where you may be able to take it for proper disposal. The next quarterly household hazardous waste drop-off event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 16th at the Highway 59 Landfill.

The Billy Wright and Highway 59 Landfills charge $5 per mattress, no matter the size of the mattress. There is also a $5 fee per box spring.
